Placement
Take the spokes before the corners
The four midpoints, o1, o3, o5, o7, together with the middle and inner points beneath them, are the only crossings between the three rings. A piece on a spoke sits on two possible jare lines at once: the ring line it stands on, and the spoke running inwards.
A piece in a plain corner sits on one line and, in the endgame, has only two neighbours to slide to. Corners are where pieces go to be forgotten.
